Just days away from the official entry into spring in the northern hemisphere, the Finnish capital Helsinki was set to see temperatures dip to minus 10 on the centigrade scale, or just 14 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale.

Astana
Close to the beginning of spring, Astana the capital of Kazakhstan was minus 6 degrees centigrade. Just days ago it was an extremely chilly minus 20 degress celcius. No Global Warming here then. Indeed across northern latitudes of the globe, below freezing temperatures were the norm - with emphasis on the 'norm' - as in nothing unusual!!!

In the Estonian capital of Tallinn temperatures were around minus 27 degrees centigrade. Meanwhile in the Finnish capital Helsinki temperatures were no better than minus 30 degrees centigrade.

Almost a Full White House
The beginning of the year sees 49 out of 50 US states (even Hawaii) with snow on the ground. Hardly an advert for global warming, but be sure there will be those who insist this is a definite sign that the planet is heating up!! Count on it.

Frozen Christmas
In Britain this has officially been declared the coldest winter since reliable records were kept. Meanwhile in North America snow storms battered eastern states dumping significant snow falls that brought widespread travel disruption.
